Want to disrupt nearly all of modern society? Destroy the internet.
I've always been concerned about the network crashing while in the middle of a trade...
Robinhood to pay $70 million fine after causing ‘widespread and significant harm’ to customers FINRA’s investigation found that millions of customers received false or misleading information from Robinhood on a variety of issues, including how much money customers had in their accounts, whether they could place trades on margin and more. The inaccurate information cost customers more than $7 million, FINRA found, and Robinhood is required to pay restitution to affected users.
Robinhood settles lawsuit over 20-year-old trader who died by suicideKearns took his own life in June 2020 after mistakenly believing he owed $730,000 and his desperate attempts to get in touch with Robinhood went unanswered, according to his family. The lawsuit accused Robinhood of wrongful death, negligent infliction of emotional stress and unfair business practices.
Probably smart to backup financial records automatically as well as on a thumb drive from time to time.

I had a few ransomware attacks already. They were just annoying, but totally harmless.
Because I use separate computers for browsing and financial transactions.
When my browsing PC gets hacked, I simply ignore it, format hard drive and install fresh copy of OS.
My financial PC is used less than 2% of the time, and I connect very few web sites on it, and it has never been hacked in 25 years.

Clark Howard has promoted the idea of using one computer for surfing the net, social media, etc.. and a Chromebook specifically just for finances only.
My wife is always getting in trouble on Facebook.
I immediately cut the power and remove the laptop battery, doing a hard stop, which seems to get rid of the potential threat.

The company I work for just paid $40 million for ransom to get their system back up and running. How much would it have cost the company to be preemptive and upgrade to the most advanced system with the highest security???

Are Chromebooks safer than the other laptops?
I couldn't adapt to one too well, and my sub-conscience spilled wine into it...
But here are some 2 opinions:
As it turns out, every Chromebook as an expiration date on which Google stops supporting the device. As reported by The Register, Google will provide new hardware with 6.5 years of auto-update support.
Chromebooks should be more secure than Windows laptops. They are strict as to what software they allow to be installed, they have default security settings designed to keep you safe, and they have significantly fewer exploitable bugs than Windows computers.
Bottom line: If you need a laptop primarily for Internet use and you want it to be as secure as possible, a Chromebook is indeed an excellent choice
